Notes in Erik Bohr’s handwriting, 1954
Transcription from “Notat om begivenhederne 1939-1943,” journal no. 1.6, Bohr Political Papers, NBA.
In the summer of 1940 [last digit later corrected to “1”, with the note “seemingly 41!” added in the margin] visit by Heisenberg and Weizsäcker in connection with an atomic-physics conference at the German institute on Nørre Alle in which nobody from U.I.T.F. took part. Confidential report from Heisenberg about the German preparation of atomic weapons, which B immediately tried to pass on to England through Sweden. (Which, however, as Bohr later learned in England, was done clumsily by Swedish friends, so that the report was not understood in London.)
