Helge Kragh receives 2025 SIF Award
The Società Italiana di Fisica has awarded the 2025 SIF Award for the History of Physics to Helge Kragh.The prize is awarded by the Italian Physics Society, Società Italiana di Fisica, and includes an award of EUR 1,500.
The Society writes the following: “Helge Kragh has been awarded ex-aequo the 2025 SIF Award for the History of Physics for his remarkable and recognised contributions to the history of 20th century physics, especially regarding the historical development of relativity and quantum mechanics.”
The Niels Bohr Archive congratulates Helge Kragh on this well-deserved recognition of his decade-long research and engagement in the history of the natural sciences which have resulted in numerous book and journal article publications as well as public lectures and appearances in films and on television.
Helge Kragh is Professor emeritus at the Niels Bohr Institute of the University of Copenhagen and Associated Researcher at the Niels Bohr Archive. He is a renowned historian of science and the author of more than 850 scholarly publications, including numerous books on the history of physics, cosmology, and chemistry, including An Introduction to the Historiography of Science (1989), Dirac: A Scientific Biography (1990), Cosmology and Controversy (1999), Quantum Generations: A History of Physics in the Twentieth Century (2002), Conceptions of Cosmos: From Myths to the Accelerating Universe (2013), From Quanta to Gravitation : The Science and Life of Christian Møller (2023), and The Names of Science : Terminology and Language in the History of the Natural Sciences (2024). He has also been very active in disseminating the physical sciences and their history. Kragh has previously been honoured with, among others, the 2016 Physics Estoire Prize, the 2019 Abraham Pais Prize for History of Physics from the American Physical Society, the 2019 Roy G. Neville Prize in Bibliography or Biography from the Science History Institute, Philadelphia, as well as the 2022 Svend Bergsøe Prize for Science Dissemination.
